Our Mission

At Geebung Kindy, we provide a safe, nurturing, challenging and respectful learning environment where individual differences are supported.

We advocate for a play-based curriculum as the basis for lifelong learning and support teachers and parents to work together to give the best possible introduction to their childrenā€™s educational journey.

Philosophy

Our philosophy is based around the core principles of respect, dignity and equality and this applies across culture, gender and ability in everything we do.

If you would like to read our philosophy please download our Geebung Kindy philosophy brochure.

Curriculum

We provide a nurturing, stimulating and challenging play-based environment and use the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Queensland kindergarten learning guidelines (QKLG) as our guidelines.

The EYLF has fiveĀ learning outcomes:

  1. Children have a strong sense of identity.
  2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
  3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
  4. Children are confident and involved learners.
  5. Children are effective communicators.

Each child is valued as an individual with differing strengths, abilities, experiences, interests and needs.

We support each child to develop a sense of belonging.

Children have opportunities to learn and play in a natural environment. The curriculum encourages children to develop at their own pace with support from teachers and peers.

Children have opportunities to learn about, and understand, sustainability and the importance of looking after our environment and the larger world.

History

Eight women started our Kindy at the Geebung Memorial Hall, originally as a child-minding Kindy on March 24, 1949.

In 1952, they moved into an army disposals hut on Robinson Rd which was then relocated to Weenga Street in 1960.

A surge in demand for preschool saw an end to the childcare days in 1965 and on March 5, 1966 the centre officially opened at Maidencombe Street and the Association was incorporated in 1986.
